Informal procedure

If an employee experiences transgressive behavior, it is advisable to first see if it can be resolved informally. This can be done, for example, by:

  • Address the perpetrator of the undesirable behavior directly
  • Inform the immediate supervisor of the undesirable behavior and work together to find a solution.
  • Approach the confidant and discuss the perceived unwanted behavior and work together to find a solution.

If the informal procedure does not help, the employee may decide to follow the formal procedure and file an official complaint.

Formal procedure

Many organizations have a formal grievance procedure. The employee who experiences undesirable behavior can inquire with the employer about the existing complaints procedure and file his or her complaint in accordance with the procedure. How the complaint is handled depends on the procedure set up by the organization. The confidential advisor can assist him or her in this procedure.
