Yes, you can also turn to a confidential advisor for integrity issues. Under the Dutch Whistleblowers Protection Act, a confidant can serve as the first point of contact for employees who want to report integrity issues within the organization, such as fraud, corruption, violation of laws or regulations, discrimination or other unethical behavior.

The role of the confidant

The confidant has a number of important duties:

  • Provide a safe environment: Provide a confidential and non-judgmental environment where employees can discuss suspected wrongdoing without fear of harm.
  • Guide the reporting process: Supporting employees through the reporting process.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: The confidant will ensure that all information shared by the reporter remains confidential unless there is a legal obligation to disclose it.

Limitations of the confidant

Although the confidant does not have the authority to investigate or take formal action on integrity issues, he plays an important role in:

  • Supporting workers in the process.
  • Ensuring that reports are properly handled according to the law.
